Multiethnic Church Plant Update: Renewal Church of Chicago

Dream of Destiny is excited to share news of churches across the country that have a vision for the full expression of reconciliation that a multiethnic church offers.  In highlighting these churches, DoD hopes you’ll be encouraged by their testimony and will support their progress.

Today, the spotlight is on Renewal Church of Chicago in Chicago, IL  Special thanks to Derrick Puckett for today’s post.

Renewal is a multi-ethnic church in the heart of Chicago that seeks to bring people from all different backgrounds and cultures together in the name of Jesus. The world, and specifically in our context Chicago, needs a movement of churches convinced that the gospel can renew lives, rebuild them through life-on-life discipleship, and release them to win this city for the glory and honor of God.  Renewal is answering the call to join this movement of fellow churches to see this dream come true. Our vision is to be a church centered on the gospel while passionately seeking the welfare of our city.  This vision rests upon the 3 initiatives: Renew, Rebuild, and Release.

So far, God has been working greatly through our 3 year old church. We have seen our congregation and members take hold of and live out our vision. In the last few months, we have had more than 40 people commit to the church through membership. We have experienced God’s goodness over the last year through a new location, the need to expand to 2 Sunday services, and addition of 2 full time staff members. We believe that through healthy community and relationships God can do something amazing here in Chicago.  Currently, our weekly neighborhood groups have increased to 9 locations around the city. These groups focus on diving deeper into scripture from Sunday sermons, sharing meals together, building relationships with one another, and serving together. We truly believe that much of the work that needs to be done in Chicago and cities nation wide has to do with not only how well we as pastors share the Gospel message, but also in how we equip others. Because of our Gospel focus and discipleship, members of Renewal are going out into the city and making an impact. We partner with shelters and schools in Chicago where members of Renewal are building relationships with people and meeting the needs in the city for God’s glory.

Renewal has experienced a wonderful 3 year existence. God is working through this church to impact the city of Chicago. We believe that God will continue to grow His church for His glory and for His fame. As we grow, we pray that people continue to become more invested in Renewal and experience the fullness of growing a multiethnic church through the giving of their time, talent, and treasures. This is our last year of external giving, so we are prayerful that our year-end giving will propel us into 2018 and beyond. We are excited and humbled that we get to participate in this adventurous journey!
